This 1910 postcard of a belle with red had and matching sash portrays Victorian tennis styles of days gone bye.   The same postcard was available at least as early as 1907 and reflects the aristocratic belle de tennis entering into the 20th century.

The the turn of the century, the 21st century, the most internationally renowned (and internet searched) belle de tennis was Anna Kournikova

Here, in 2000, Anna graces the cover of Gentlemen's Quarterly (GQ) with the subtitle "Don't Call Me Lolita"

femme de fashion also fits this category, as historically fashion and beauty have been portrayed as pretty much synonymous where tennis is concerned.

The Ladies Home Journalcover from 1900 exemplifies the fashion of the time for attending a tennis event.  Things are quite a bit more relaxed and less formal today, wouldn't you say?

This one is titled: ""The girl I like to play with"

This post card matches the book cover of The Heart of Gold, 1890.  L. T. Meade, born in Ireland in 1854, was a prolific author who authored over 300 novels.

Perhaps F. Earl Christy's work epitomizes this category from an art perspective as well as anyone's.  His work is on a full range of postcards and magazine covers.

This one is from 1910.

Once upon a time maidens played lawn tennis in long dresses with flat top racquets.  Times have really changed.

This modern Evan Williams ad draws the contrast of time, and the TenniSite agrees in many ways that the longer we wait the better history gets (not really the point of the advertising of course).
