Tennis from the beginning to today. Baseline: Not that long ago this sport was known to all as 'lawn tennis'. French 'flavored', lawn tennis, or tennis, as most of us refer to it today, originated in the 1870s in Britain. It spread like wild fire around the world. The heritage also runs deep in the United States and Australia, in what is truly a global sport in the 21st century.
